Rivers State Governor,  Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed deep satisfaction and pride as he commissioned the Ahoada Zonal Hospital, a project he inherited at its formation stage from successive administrations.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Ahoada on Tuesday, Fubara described the moment as a culmination of years of dedication to improving healthcare across the state.

The governor noted that the Ahoada Hospital is part of a wider plan to strengthen healthcare delivery across Rivers State.

While the Ahoada and Bori Zonal Hospitals have already been inaugurated, he assured that the facilities in Degema and Etche will be completed and commissioned before the end of March next year.

Fubara emphasised that his administration’s development agenda extends beyond roads and housing to include quality healthcare and education

The governor described these as key pillars of effective governance, even as he assured residents that all ongoing projects in Ahoada would be completed, and new ones initiated based on the needs of the people.

Fubara emphasised that his administration’s development agenda extends beyond roads and housing to include quality healthcare and education.

He stated, “This afternoon, we are here again to do one of the unusual things. I was really touched and emotional when the contractor took us down memory lane.

“This was not just a project we inherited; it was one my predecessor also inherited. What are we trying to tell our people, your health is important to us. Your business survival is crucial to us.

“What we have done here today is to tell you that the well-being of our people is the top priority of this government. ”

He further said the hospital will prevent people from running to Port Harcourt, the state capital, for healthcare.

“I believe that instead of everyone running to the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital, once you cannot immediately access the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, the closest option should be here.

“Your health is important to us, and no matter how much wealth you have, you need good health to enjoy it,” he said

The excitement of the day was shared by the Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr Adaeze Oreh, who recounted the administration’s remarkable achievements in primary healthcare.

She presented awards recognising Rivers State’s consecutive three-year win as the best in primary healthcare in the South-South region, each carrying a prize of $500,000.

Oreh explained that the Ahoada Zonal Hospital is a 105-bed secondary facility across four floors, with separate blocks of staff quarters.

She said the facility will now cater to the growing healthcare needs of the entire Rivers West Senatorial District.

The commissioning ceremony brought together residents, government officials, and healthcare workers, all sharing in the excitement of a new era in healthcare delivery for Rivers State.
