Governors Have Cash, No Excuse For Rising Insecurity – Sule

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has told his colleagues in the North to stop passing blame over insecurity, insisting that the unprecedented revenue now available to states gives them no excuse not to act.

Speaking on Monday at the 2025 Northern Nigeria Investment and Industrialisation Summit in Abuja, Sule noted that monthly allocations to the three tiers of government had quadrupled under President Bola Tinubu’s reforms.

“For the first time in our history, all tiers of government are sharing more revenue than they ever imagined,” Sule said.

“Over N2.2 trillion was shared this month alone. When I became governor in 2019, we were sharing between N590 billion and N620 billion. Today, it is four times that amount.”

The governor urged northern leaders to invest the windfall in productive sectors while taking charge of the security of their states.

“Every state now has the resources to secure its people. We should stop blaming anybody for our security. If we are blaming anybody, blame ourselves,” he declared.

Highlighting developments in his state, Sule said his administration had compelled investors in the solid minerals sector to establish processing plants within Nasarawa.

According to him, the move had already produced a 3,000-metric-tonne-per-day plant and another 6,000-tonne facility awaiting inauguration.

He further disclosed that oil reserves of between five and seven million barrels had been confirmed in the state, while plans were underway to expand rice cultivation from 3,300 hectares to 8,000 hectares before the end of his tenure.

The summit, themed Unlocking Strategic Opportunities in Mining, Agriculture and Power, attracted key stakeholders seeking new pathways for industrialisation and investment across northern Nigeria.

The Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) had earlier announced the disbursement of N2.22 trillion among the three tiers of government in August, out of a gross total of N3.63 trillion.
