Engineering construction company Julius Berger Nigeria Plc says it has made tremendous progress in its Warri/Effurun road and flyovers project, with all eyes set on completion ahead of the set deadline of March 2026.

The Delta State Government had, in September 2023, approved the award of contract for the construction of three flyovers and road expansion in Warri and Effurun.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Fred Edafiogho, had told reporters in Asaba about the development, saying that the approval of the contract was aimed at solving the gridlock often experienced in both towns.

Edafiogho said, “The contract included the study, design and construction of road expansion and improvement work on a section of the DSC/NPA Expressway from Effurun Roundabout to DSC Roundabout along Effurun/Patani, East-West Highway, including the construction of three slipways to replace the cloverleaf interchange of the existing Effurun Flyover Bridge alongside two pedestrian bridges in Effurun, Uvwie LGA of the state.

“Julius Berger was to design and construct a flyover bridge at PTI junction, along the Effurun/Patani, East-West Highway, also in Effurun, as well as the design and construction of a flyover at DSC Roundabout, along the Effurun/Patani, East-West Highway in Effurun.

“In a November 2024 monthly report on the project, the Project Team stated that of the four sections of the project, work on the DSC Flyover is now over 95.95 per cent completed. The others, the report continued, include PTI Flyover, 90.22 per cent completed; Effurun Road Expansion, 53.58 per cent completed; and Enerhen Flyover with completion of over 89.26 per cent.”

On the DSC Flyover project, the team led by the Project Manager, Thomas Hugh, stated that construction of parapets, handrails and verges was in progress with the installation of gully pots and pipes, among others.

“The PTI Flyover has advanced to over 90 per cent completion with piling works and pipeline crossing and protection completed. For the stormwater drainages, earthworks for road expansion and walkway construction, among others, were in progress.

“The design and construction of the ongoing Enerhen Flyover has advanced close to 90 per cent, with the launching of beams and slabs as well as the casting of the in-situ bridge deck completed, among ongoing works. We are working the best way we know to deliver on this project before the deadline, and as you can see, we are making progress on all fronts,” said Hugh.

The statement further revealed that residents, traders, and motorists in Effurun and Warri trooped out to welcome the State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, during his inspection of the infrastructure projects across the Warri/Effurun metropolis.

It read, “The residents expressed their profound gratitude for the ongoing construction of the DSC Roundabout and Enerhen Junction Flyovers, as well as the reconstruction of the Warri/Sapele/Benin Road.

“The elated citizens, while showering praises on the governor for doing wonders in the Warri/Effurun axis, pledged their massive support and votes for his 2027 second-term bid, praying for continued divine guidance as he advances the state’s development.”

Speaking toking to journalists after the walk-through, Oborevwori said he was pleased with the pace and quality of work carried out by Julius Berger.

He emphasised that his strategic interventions are designed to permanently end the perennial traffic gridlock and improve the socioeconomic lives of the people.

He said, “I know what the people have gone through, and I feel their pain. But when there is pain, there will be enjoyment at the end of the project. The Warri and Effurun people are very happy, as you can see. And they are appreciative of the good quality job Julius Berger is doing.”
