Political heavyweights in Rivers State have underlined Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s dependence on former Governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, for electoral success in Gokana Local Government Area.

Victor Giadom, national vice chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), South-South, made the assertion on Tuesday during Wike’s “thank you” visit to the people of Gokana.

He described Wike as the indisputable political authority in the area, stressing that no candidate, including Governor Fubara, could bypass the minister’s influence.

“I guarantee, on behalf of my brothers, that the Gokana people are for Wike and President Bola Tinubu. Gokana is a no-go area for anybody else. For Fubara to succeed here, he must go through Wike,” Giadom said.

Echoing Giadom, Senator Magnus Abe, former representative of Rivers Southeast in the Senate, said the people had already aligned with Wike and President Tinubu. “Wike is a unifying leader.

If you follow him, you will not go home empty-handed. The Ogoni people are with you; please tell Tinubu he does not need to campaign in Gokana,” Abe stated.

The deputy speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Dumle Maol, assured Wike of the people’s unwavering support.

“Anywhere you go, we will go,” he said, a sentiment mirrored by the chairman of Gokana Local Government, Confidence Deko, who pledged full backing for both Wike and Tinubu.

Responding to the reception, Wike expressed gratitude to the people for their loyalty and counsel, urging patience and unity.

He reiterated his commitment to collaborative governance, noting that APC and PDP members in Rivers were working under the umbrella of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“When you are united, good things will come. Leadership requires guidance and patience. We will continue to work with the people for the progress of Rivers State,” Wike said.

The visit highlighted the continued centrality of Wike in Rivers State politics, signaling that gubernatorial influence alone may not guarantee electoral success in key local government strongholds.
