Alake, Obadara Lead Dignitaries As Adeoye Marks First New Year As Egba Summit President

Prominent traditional rulers, politicians, professionals and community leaders on Wednesday gathered in Abeokuta, Ogun State, to usher in the New Year with the President of the Egba Economic Summit, Dr Gbenga Adeoye, and his wife, Mrs Kemi Adeoye.

The annual January 1 thanksgiving and fellowship, held at the Adeoyes’ residence, was particularly significant as it was the first New Year celebration since Dr Adeoye assumed office as president of the Egba Economic Summit for a two-year tenure.

The 2026 celebration featured prayers, worship, singing, dancing and testimonies, attracting guests from different parts of the country.

Speaking at the event, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland urged Nigerians to remain hopeful in the new year, referencing Psalm 126 as a message of restoration and joy.

The monarch expressed confidence that insecurity would soon end, adding that Nigeria would return to a place where citizens could move freely and safely.

He also commended the efforts of President Bola Tinubu and the nation’s security agencies, saying ongoing collaborations would help restore peace and stability.

A guest preacher, Pastor Funmi Kushimo of Alleluia Christian Chapel, encouraged participants to draw closer to God in 2026, assuring them that the year would bring good outcomes.

In his testimony, the General Overseer of Alleluia Christian Chapel, Pastor Paul Adeniyi Daniel, thanked God for restoring his health after a severe illness in July 2025.

Former senator Gbenga Obadara described the January 1 gathering as a tradition he cherished and prayed that Dr Adeoye would continue to have the grace to host guests annually.

Dignitaries at the event included the Olori of Egbaland, Dr Tokunbo Gbadebo; former leaders of the Egba Economic Summit; professionals from various fields; church members, alumni groups and family friends.

The celebration was spiced with musical performances by Bukky Emmanuel and later Titi Esan and her band, while guests also engaged in

recreational activities within the compound.
In their closing remarks, Dr Adeoye and his wife thanked guests for their presence, describing it as a symbol of love and fellowship. They pledged to make future celebrations better.

The family also showcased Adire fabrics in different designs, promoting the cultural heritage and creative craftsmanship of Egbaland.
