2027: I’ll Fight Any Ticket That Makes Obi Vice – Aisha Yesufu

Prominent socio-political activist and African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Aisha Yesufu, has vowed to oppose any presidential ticket in the 2027 general election that features former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, as a running mate.

Yesufu issued the warning in a video that went viral on social media on Monday, where she cautioned Obi against accepting a vice-presidential slot ahead of the next polls.

According to her, Obi, who was the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, remains one of the strongest contenders among opposition figures and should not settle for a subordinate position.

“I’m giving you people my word. If Peter Obi emerges as a running mate to anyone, I will work against that ticket,” Yesufu said in the video. “In my little capacity, I will work against them even if

I don’t support any other candidate. Why are we always asking the best to be the second?”

She insisted that Nigeria’s political culture of fielding strong candidates as deputies rather than as presidential flagbearers must be challenged, stressing that Obi deserves to lead a ticket, not trail behind another aspirant.

The activist’s comments come amid growing permutations ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly within opposition circles seeking to dislodge President Bola Tinubu.

Obi, who recently joined the ADC—one of the parties adopted by a coalition of opposition leaders—has been widely mentioned as a possible aspirant for the party’s presidential ticket.

However, there are speculations that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may clinch the ADC’s presidential ticket and possibly pick Obi as his running mate, a scenario that appears to have triggered Yesufu’s strong reaction.
The development has further fueled debates within the opposition on zoning, leadership, and the strategic choices that could shape the 2027 contest.
