The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, led by its Chairman, Tanimu Turaki (SAN), on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja, PLATFORM TIMES has learnt.

Turaki, alongside other members of the NWC and a few selected state chairmen, arrived at Jonathan’s office in Maitama at about 5:45pm in a convoy of about six sport utility vehicles.

Although details of the meeting were not disclosed as of press time, reliable party sources said the discussions centred on the deepening internal crisis rocking the PDP and efforts by the current leadership to stabilise and reposition the party.

The meeting is also believed to be part of wider consultations by the Turaki-led NWC with senior party stakeholders and elders aimed at restoring unity, strengthening internal democracy and preparing the opposition party for future political engagements.

Jonathan, a former PDP president and one of the party’s most influential leaders, is widely regarded as a key stabilising figure whose intervention is seen as crucial to resolving factional disputes within the party.

The PDP has in recent months been embroiled in leadership tussles, defections and disagreements among key blocs, developments that have weakened its cohesion and raised concerns about its readiness to challenge the ruling party in forthcoming elections.

Party officials who spoke on condition of anonymity said further consultations with other elders and stakeholders were expected in the coming days as the NWC intensifies moves to douse tensions and rebuild confidence within the party.
