Fayose Mocks PDP: Says Party Tickets Now “Tissue Paper,” Reveals Three Governors Planning To Defect

Blames Internal Sabotage, Exonerates Tinubu Of PDP Woes

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has described the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a “sick party without a cure,” warning that at least three more governors under its platform are on the verge of defecting.

Fayose, who spoke on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme on Wednesday, said the party’s internal crises have reached a point where its presidential and governorship tickets now hold little or no political value.

“Let me tell you, there are three more governors that will leave soon,” the outspoken former governor said.

“When they go, only five will remain — and even among those, one will have to fight to get a ticket. The PDP ticket today is nothing more than an ordinary tissue paper.”

He blamed the collapse of the once-dominant opposition party on what he called internal sabotage and the unending struggle for control by some of its governors and power brokers.

“Some governors have practically killed the PDP because they want to own the party structure in their states,” Fayose lamented.

“That is exactly what happened in 2023. The PDP is sick and remains perpetually sick without a cure in view.”

The former governor dismissed insinuations that President Bola Tinubu or the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was responsible for the recent gale of defections from the PDP.

“President Tinubu should not be blamed for PDP’s problems,” Fayose said firmly.

“Those who destroyed the party are within it. The people who killed the PDP know themselves. I’m still a member of the party, but it’s not my duty to fix what I didn’t break.”

Fayose’s remarks come in the wake of the defection of Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, from the PDP — a move that further deepened the opposition party’s troubles ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former governor’s outburst adds to growing anxiety within the PDP following the loss of several key members and the internal wranglings that have plagued its national leadership since the last election cycle.

Political observers say Fayose’s comments underscore the deep cracks threatening the survival of the PDP, once the largest political party in Africa but now struggling to hold its ranks together.
