The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated the first female democratically elected deputy governor in Nigeria, Alhaja Sinatu Ojikutu, on the celebration of her 80th birthday.
Ojikutu, deputy governor to ex-Lagos State Governor, Sir Michael Otedola, during the aborted Third Republic, clocks 80 on Thursday (today).
She and Otedola were elected on the platform of the National Republican Convention (NRC).
Governor Sanwo-Olu, in a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, described Ojikutu as an experienced technocrat, devoted Muslim, disciplinarian, and anti-corruption crusader, who is passionate about good governance, development of Lagos State, and delivery of democratic dividends to the people.
He described her as a rare example of a selfless leader.
He said she deserved all the accolades at 80 for her immense contributions to the growth and development of governance, economics, and politics in Lagos State.

Sanwo-Olu said: “On behalf of my family, the government and the people of Lagos State, I felicitate the first elected female Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Alhaja Sinatu Ojikutu on her 80th birthday.
“Alhaja Ojikutu served Lagos State passionately, first as the Secretary of the Lagos State Transport Corporation and later as deputy governor. She was a reliable, committed and transparent deputy to Governor Michael Otedola, and they worked together to deliver the dividends of democracy to millions of Lagos residents during their tenure.
“She also made a positive impact in the banking sector. She joined the banking industry and rose to the position of Executive Director at the Nigerian Bank for Commerce and Industry, becoming the first female to achieve that feat in Nigeria.
“Ojikutu contributed to the political development of Nigeria. During her active days in politics, she was an uncompromising, disciplined and principled politician. She was one of the leading voices in Lagos State and national politics for about two decades.
“As Alhaja Sinatu Ojikutu joins the league of octogenarians, I wish her a joyous 80th birthday. I pray that the Almighty Allah will continue to bless her with good health and strengthen her to render more service to humanity.”
