The Ogun State chapter of the African Democratic Congress has called on the State House of Assembly to commence impeachment proceedings against Governor Dapo Abiodun over what it described as alleged financial recklessness, dereliction of duty, and abandonment of core governance responsibilities.
In a strongly worded statement on Monday, signed by its chairman, Otunba (Dr.) Femi Soluade, the opposition party accused the governor of running what it termed “a government of reckless extravagance, administrative incompetence, and disregard for the welfare of citizens,” claiming that the state under Abiodun had suffered unprecedented infrastructural decay — particularly in Ogun Central.
The ADC said roads across Egbaland, spanning Ewekoro to Obafemi-Owode, had become “death traps,” alleging that the governor had subjected six local governments in the zone to “criminal neglect” while allegedly prioritising political and personal interests centered around his Ogun East zone.
According to the statement, “hundreds of lives have been lost due to the wicked neglect of Ogun Central’s roads,” accusing the APC-led government of “institutionalising hardship, poverty, and infrastructural decay” across the state.
The party also raised concerns over alleged misprioritisation of public funds, alleging that the state government diverted resources to purchase an aircraft and finance what it described as “extravagant birthday celebrations reportedly worth over ₦2bn,” instead of addressing poor road conditions, water scarcity, power challenges, and inadequate health and education facilities.
It further questioned alleged spending on the renovation of the governor’s private residence in Iperu while the state’s official Government House in Abeokuta “lies in disrepair.”
The ADC demanded that the Ogun House of Assembly probe the alleged aircraft purchase, insisting that such expenditure was never presented to or approved by the legislature.
“The governor cannot continue to expend public resources on showpieces and self-glorifying projects while the people suffer without basic infrastructure,” the party said.
It urged the Assembly to suspend all aviation-related contracts pending a full audit of the state’s airport and aircraft procurement processes, and to begin impeachment proceedings “for breach of public trust and gross financial misconduct.”
“We call on citizens, civil society, and all stakeholders to rise and demand accountability,” the party declared.
As of press time, the Ogun State government had yet to respond to the allegations.
