The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has revealed why the Super Eagles did not attend the medal presentation ceremony of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

The President of the NFF, Ibrahim Gusau, was said to have disclosed the reason by a journalist, Osasu Obayiuwana, via X.

Many Nigerians had looked forward to seeing the Super Eagles decorated with their third place medals at the finals on Sunday in Rabat after they secured third place in the championship.

Gusau disclosed that the players could not stay back due to pressure from their clubs, which insisted on their immediate return after the third place match.

Obayiuwana quoted him as having said: “The players could not wait to receive their medals on Sunday.

“Their clubs were already after them to come back after Saturday’s game.

“I have the medals in my possession.

“And this is the case for Egypt too, not just us.

“Had the medal ceremony taken place on the day of the match, they would have had the medals.”
