A Sokoto-based politician and former grassroots mobiliser for Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s election campaigns, Alhaji Buhari Namalam, has accused top figures in the All Progressives Congress in the state of orchestrating his political marginalisation, alleging intimidation, betrayal and sexual harassment.
In a video circulating on social media, Namalam said his relationship with the party leadership deteriorated despite his role in mobilising youths for the APC during the 2019 and 2023 elections.
He alleged that he was subsequently excluded from political opportunities and patronage, which he described as unjust and demoralising.
“I believe my popularity among the youth and my refusal to compromise my personal values are the reasons I am being treated this way,” he said in the video, while swearing on the Holy Qur’an to the sincerity of his claims.
Namalam also claimed that he was pressured by party figures to remain silent about his grievances in exchange for political compensation ahead of the 2023 governorship election, a promise he said was never fulfilled.
Efforts by PLATFORM TIMES to reach the spokespersons of Governor Ahmed Aliyu and Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko for their reactions were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
The development has generated reactions within political circles in Sokoto, with some party members calling for internal reconciliation and dialogue to address the grievances raised by the former party loyalist and prevent further divisions within the APC
