A creative, Leke Ademo, has released a short film titled, The WhatsApp Group. The film, which is streaming on YouTube, offering a quiet but poignant reflection on friendship, adulthood, and emotional distance in the digital age.
A statement shared with Society Plus noted that the film eschews celebration and spectacle to focus on a more familiar but rarely discussed reality: the slow silence that overtakes once-vibrant group chats as life, pressure, and personal struggles take over.
It added, “The WhatsApp Group traces the emotional undercurrents of a chat that has gradually gone quiet, using its stillness to explore themes of hustle, survival, unspoken burdens, and the fragility of modern connection. While social media timelines overflow with milestones and success stories, the film draws attention to those who remain present online but are privately struggling.”
The film is accompanied by Still Online, an original soundtrack by Ademo that blends rap and melody to mirror the story’s emotional tone. It reinforces a recurring theme in his work, that withdrawal and quietness are often signs of endurance, not indifference.
Beyond his creative work, Ademo produces educational and reflective content that unpacks career development, business, technology, and identity. His work has resonated particularly with young professionals navigating a fast-changing world without clear roadmaps.
The statement added, “The film arrives at a moment when constant digital presence often masks emotional isolation. The film invites viewers to pause during a season of heightened comparison, reflect on the people they have stopped hearing from, and consider the weight silence can carry.”
