Gospel Cinema International has launched the Africa Gospel Film Project (AGFP), a new initiative aimed at building capacity among Christian filmmakers across Africa and expanding the continent’s presence in the global faith-based film industry.
The project, described as a multi-year programme, is designed to combine professional filmmaking training with spiritual development and access to international distribution opportunities.
The organisers have said the initiative was created in response to the limited representation of African faith-based films in global catalogues, despite Africa having one of the world’s largest Christian populations.
According to Gospel Cinema International, AGFP will focus on equipping participants with industry-relevant skills while encouraging strong values-based storytelling.
The initiative is also expected to support the production of high-quality Christian content that can compete effectively in international markets.
The first phase of the project will begin with a six-day immersive filmmaking and spiritual formation programme scheduled to hold in Nigeria from April 13 to 18, 2026.
This will be followed later in the year by the production of an eight-episode faith-based television series involving project participants.
Speaking on the launch, President of Gospel Cinema International, Bright Wonder Obasi, said film plays a significant role in shaping culture and belief, noting that the project aims to raise storytellers who combine creative excellence with spiritual responsibility.
The Africa Gospel Film Project will offer training in screenwriting, directing, cinematography, editing, producing, and acting.
Participants will also receive mentorship, spiritual guidance, and opportunities to collaborate on productions with pathways to international distribution.
Gospel Cinema International, a faith-driven film development organisation, said the project is part of its broader mission to train, produce, and distribute Christian films that influence culture and inspire faith worldwide.
Applications for participation and partnership discussions are currently open as the organisation prepares to roll out the programme across Africa.
