A chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Chinedu Obigwe, has thrown his weight behind the decision of the Anambra State governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to cancel the Monday sit-at-home, insisting it is in the best interest of the South-East region.

Obigwe, who is the National Coordinator of APGA Media Warriors Forum, said he backs Soludo’s assertions that “leadership requires taking inconvenient steps to secure the future”.

In a press statement issued on Saturday, he, therefore, urged South-East residents to support the governor’s move to end every Monday’s sit-at-home “because ending it is in our own best interest”.

He said, “Umunnem ndi Anambra, we must support our governor’s commendable move to end every Monday’s sit-at-home because ending it is in our own best interest.

“Some people are misinterpreting the governor’s actions and labouring in vain to portray him in a bad light. As far as the issue of Onitsha Main Market closure for one week is concerned, I maintain my stand that it was done for the good of Main Market traders, Anambra traders, ndi Anambra and Ndigbo at large.

“Igbo adage says that ‘an elder will not be at home and watch a she-goat deliver in tethers’. This is exactly what Governor Soludo is doing.

“Enemies of the State have come up with their old tactics to instil fear in traders and Ndi Anambra at large to prevent them from coming out on Monday.

“They posted many threatening videos on social media to scare our people from coming out for work and business on Monday being February 2, 2026.

“We must not succumb to their scaremongering tactics. Anambra is secured, and the criminals behind the threatening videos that are currently trending online know very well that they cannot do more than dead rats.”

According to him, the gallant and well-fortified security operatives are monitoring everything closely, and they are battle-ready to deal decisively with those criminals.

“Let’s not succumb to non-state actors scare mongering tactictics and heed our Governor’s call for everybody to go out for their work and businesses on Monday, 2nd February 2026, without fear of molestation.

“I read on social media that one charge and bail lawyer has filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja against the Governor of Anambra State, the Attorney General of Anambra, the Commissioner of Police and the Inspector General of Police, demanding N2billion in damages over the one-week closure of Onitsha Main Market.

“The above lawyer is the number one enemy of Ndigbo because his action is in support of the Monday sit-at-home order that has strangulated Anambra and Igbo’s economy.

“Governor Soludo is a leader blessed with the strong will to do what is right that is in the best interest of the Anambra people. Nobody can claim to love Anambra people and igbo’s at large more than Governor Soludo.

“His good work in Anambra State has clearly shown that he loves Anambra State with passion and can go to any length to protect the interests and future of our people.

“Let’s team up with our beloved Governor to put a stop to every Monday’s sit-at-home and reclaim our State completely from non-State actors,” the statement concluded.

PUNCH Online on January 28 reported that the Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has insisted that there is no going back on ending the Monday sit-at-home in markets across the state, particularly in Onitsha and Nnewi. Soludo said that the state government can no longer tolerate the “calculated economic sabotage.”
