Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has attributed Nigeria’s enduring challenges to poor leadership, stressing that the nation’s problems stem more from politicians than a lack of resources.

Obi made the remarks on Saturday while addressing stakeholders in Ibadan, Oyo State, a city he described as a historic “city of knowledge and hope” that continues to play a key role in Nigeria’s development.

Commending Oyo State for its progress, Obi acknowledged the role of Governor Seyi Makinde in uplifting the state, highlighting the administration’s developmental initiatives and commitment to good governance.

He also lauded religious leaders for promoting moral leadership and advocating for accountable governance.

“As we celebrate 50 years of Oyo State, I pray that the next 50 years will set an example for the nation,” Obi said, praising Governor Makinde’s dedication to public service and recalling his early advisory contributions to the administration.

Urging Nigerians to take leadership seriously, Obi stressed the need for prayers for politicians, whom he described as “the major contributors to the nation’s woes.” He added, “We are the problem of Nigeria, no one else.”

Obi further argued that Nigeria is rich in resources but suffers from mismanagement and poor governance.

He called on citizens to pray for leaders to act responsibly and deploy public funds for the common good, emphasizing that accountable governance is key to national development.

He concluded by blessing those present and expressing hope for a more responsible and prosperous Nigeria.
