January 22, (THEWILL) — United States President Donald Trump has claimed that American forces utilized what he described as a secret sonic weapon during the January 3 operation that led to the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

Speaking on the NewsNation program Katie Pavlich Tonight, Trump said the United States possesses advanced weapons that no other country has or even knows about.

The president declined to provide specific technical details on the device used in the operation, which has been codenamed Operation Absolute Resolve.

When asked whether Americans should be concerned about the power of such weaponry, Trump noted that it is probably best not to discuss their features publicly but described the raid on the compound of Maduro as an amazing attack.

Speculation regarding the use of specialized technology began after White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt shared an account attributed to eyewitnesses.

These reports claimed that Venezuelan soldiers experienced intense sound waves that left them disoriented and physically incapacitated.

According to these accounts, some personnel suffered from nosebleeds and an inability to maintain their footing after the weapon was activated.

THEWILL reports that the claims have drawn sharp international reactions, particularly from Russia. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has indicated that Russian intelligence services are looking into the matter, while other Russian officials have condemned the operation as an act of armed aggression.

Maduro was captured during the early morning raid after the United States accused his administration of narcoterrorism and drug trafficking. He was subsequently transported to New York, where he pleaded not guilty in a federal court.

While Venezuelan officials stated that the assault left scores of people dead, it remains unclear how many casualties were specifically linked to the reported use of directed energy or sonic weapons.
