Police foil Ondo kidnapping attempt, rescue two victims

The Ondo State Police Command has foiled an attempted kidnapping along the Idogun–Imeri axis in Ose Local Government Area, rescuing two victims.

The incident occurred on Friday at about 5:45 p.m. when suspected kidnappers attacked a social gathering where guests had assembled.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Abayomi Jimoh, on Saturday.

According to the statement, operatives of the command acted swiftly on distress information and were immediately deployed to the scene, where they engaged the assailants and disrupted the operation.

“Acting swiftly on distress information, operatives of the command were immediately mobilised to the scene, engaging the criminals and disrupting their operation,” the statement read.

The command confirmed that two victims were rescued from the attackers and taken to a medical facility for treatment.

“During the operation, two victims were successfully rescued from the assailants and have been taken to the nearest medical facility,” it added.

The statement noted that the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, commended the operatives for their prompt response and assured residents of intensified security measures in the area.

It added that reinforcement had been deployed, while combing operations were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

“The command remains resolute and unwavering in its commitment to combating violent crime and will relentlessly track down and apprehend all suspects to ensure they face the full weight of the law,” the statement said.

The commissioner also appreciated the efforts of the citizen who provided timely information that aided the operation, urging members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible intelligence.

The command further urged residents to remain calm and vigilant as efforts continue to secure the area and prevent further incidents.

Further updates, the police said, would be communicated as the situation develops.
