Pop star Britney Spears has voluntarily checked herself into a treatment facility after her DUI arrest last month near Los Angeles.
Spears, 44, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs in Ventura, California, on March 4 and was released the following day.
Speaking with People on Sunday, April 12, a representative of the singer confirmed that she had checked herself into a rehabilitation centre.
Spears is expected to appear in court for her DUI arrest, which her rep called an “unfortunate incident” that was “completely inexcusable.”
“Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in a long-overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life.
“Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time,
“Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well-being,” the statement said.
Spears’ erratic behaviour has drawn concern from fans following the end of her conservatorship in 2021.
Kevin Federline, the singer’s ex-husband with whom she shares sons Sean Preston and Jayden James, said in October 2005, “It’s become impossible to pretend everything’s OK.
“From where I sit, the clock is ticking, and we’re getting close to the 11th hour.
“Something bad is going to happen if things don’t change, and my biggest fear is that our sons will be left holding the pieces.”
