A member of the Ogun State House of Assembly representing Odogbolu State Constituency, Lukman Adeleye, has declared his intention to seek re-election, pledging to consolidate on his first-term achievements and expand development across the constituency.
Adeleye, a former Minority Leader of the Assembly, made the declaration during a gathering of All Progressives Congress stakeholders, community leaders and supporters in Odogbolu Local Government Area, where he was also formally received into the ruling party.
The lawmaker recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC in his Ibefun ward alongside a large number of supporters and party leaders, in a move seen as a significant political realignment in the area..
Speaking at the event, Adeleye said his decision to seek a second term was informed by the need to sustain ongoing projects and deliver more dividends of democracy to his constituents.
He commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for what he described as inclusive leadership, noting that the administration’s style of governance influenced his decision to join the APC.
“I believe I have garnered the necessary experience within my first term to do even more for our people,” he said.
Addressing concerns over relinquishing his former role as Minority Leader, Adeleye said effective representation should be measured by impact rather than titles.
“It is not about position; it is about the people. I have done so much for my people even while in opposition, and I believe being in the ruling party will enable me to do more,” he added.
The lawmaker expressed confidence in the APC’s electoral strength in Odogbolu, recalling that the party won the majority of polling units in the 2023 elections and projecting a stronger outing in the next poll.
Adeleye also pledged loyalty to the APC leadership, affirming his readiness to abide by the party’s decision on the mode of primary election.
“I have submitted myself to the party. Whether it is consensus or direct primary, I am ready,” he said.
He further assured constituents of intensified efforts in infrastructure, healthcare, education and women empowerment if re-elected.
In their separate remarks, APC leaders in Odogbolu welcomed Adeleye into the party, describing him as a responsive and grassroots-oriented politician.
The APC Chairman in the local government, Muyiwa Idowu, said the lawmaker’s defection would strengthen the party’s base, while the council chairman, Babatunde Diya, represented by Vice Chairman Olushola Adeyinka, commended his performance in office and urged residents to support his re-election bid.
Also speaking, the Governor’s Liaison Officer in Odogbolu, Shuiab Ladejobi, expressed confidence in Adeleye’s capacity to deliver more dividends of democracy.
The Onirete of Irete Ijebu, Oba Abdulganiu Awokoya-Yesufu, offered royal blessings, describing the lawmaker as a worthy representative of the constituency.
The event was attended by party executives, youth and women leaders, and other stakeholders from across the local government area.
