The media office of Senator Olugbenga Onaolapo Obadara on Sunday dismissed claims by former Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, over the outcome of a recent All Progressives Congress meeting in Ogun Central, describing his account as “inaccurate and misleading.”
Obadara’s camp, in a statement issued in Abeokuta, was reacting to an earlier release by Amosun titled “Setting the Record Straight,” in which the former governor reportedly gave his version of the April 23, 2026 meeting held at the residence of a party chieftain, Chief Olusegun Osoba.
Faulting the narrative, Obadara said key facts were either omitted or misrepresented, particularly claims suggesting that some aspirants had approached Amosun to seek support and agreed to step down for him ahead of the 2027 senatorial contest.
The statement clarified that contrary to Amosun’s claim, it was the former governor who initiated a private meeting with Obadara.
“It is on record that Senator Amosun personally called to request an urgent meeting at his residence, which was honoured out of courtesy. That invitation formed the basis of attendance and was completely omitted from his press statement,” the statement read.
On the issue of the Ogun Central senatorial ambition, Obadara’s media office said the lawmaker merely declared his interest during discussions and never at any point indicated willingness to withdraw from the race.
“At no time did Senator Obadara volunteer to step down for Senator Amosun, nor was he asked to do so. Any suggestion to the contrary is false,” the statement added.
The camp also expressed surprise over claims allegedly made at the larger meeting that Obadara had privately agreed to withdraw in favour of Amosun, noting that the senator rejected such assertions “vehemently.”
Questioning the basis of the claim, the statement asked, “What is the rationale for one to step down for someone who is not in the race?”
Obadara further distanced himself from reports that three aspirants had struck a deal to step down for Amosun, maintaining that he was neither aware of nor involved in any such arrangement.
“He speaks only for himself: he never made such a commitment, and none was sought from him,” the statement noted.
While acknowledging Amosun’s status as a former governor and senator, Obadara stressed that respect for past offices should not translate into acceptance of what he described as a “false narrative.”
The statement urged stakeholders within the APC to refrain from distorting the events of the meeting, warning that such actions could undermine unity in the Ogun Central chapter of the party as political activities ahead of 2027 intensify.
Obadara reaffirmed his intention to contest the Ogun Central senatorial seat, insisting that he would not be pressured into stepping down through media reports or public claims.
