Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Monday expressed strong optimism that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would produce Nigeria’s next president in the 2027 general elections.
Makinde made the declaration at the 103rd National Executive Committee meeting of a PDP faction held in Abuja, where party leaders and stakeholders converged amid ongoing internal realignments.
Addressing party faithful, the governor said the PDP remained strategically positioned to reclaim power across all tiers of government, urging members to close ranks and sustain unity ahead of the polls.
“We should write it down. This gathering will produce House of Assembly members, House of Representatives members, Senators, Governors, and the next President,” Makinde stated.
The meeting also ratified the appointment of a 13-member caretaker committee to manage the affairs of the faction, a move seen as part of efforts to stabilise the party’s internal structure.
The committee is chaired by former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki, while the Deputy National Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja, will serve as National Secretary.
Other members of the committee include Daniel Ambrose, Hamza Abuya, Ihediwa, Isah Abubakar, Theophilus Dakashan, Ini Ememobong, Aribisala Adewale Idowu, Baru Shaffi, and Okechukwu Obiechina.
The caretaker committee was approved following a motion moved by Tony Aziegbemi and seconded by Clement Fagboyede.
The development comes as the PDP intensifies consultations and restructuring efforts to resolve lingering internal disputes and reposition itself as a formidable opposition force ahead of the 2027 elections.
Political observers say the success of the party’s renewed push will largely depend on its ability to maintain cohesion and effectively manage competing interests within its ranks.
