Members of the defunct The Osun Progressives, a political group loyal to former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, have rejoined the All Progressives Congress and declared support for its governorship candidate, Munirudeen Oyebamiji, ahead of the August 15 election.
The group, now rebranded as Osun Progressives Ambassadors, announced its return in a statement issued on Thursday and signed by its leader, Adeniran Ajala.
Ajala said the decision followed what he described as “years of political miscalculations,” noting that members had initially aligned with TOP to strengthen the APC but later discovered the platform had deviated from its founding ideals.
According to him, the group’s reintegration into the APC was facilitated by allies of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.
“We aligned with TOP with the hope of correcting grey areas and strengthening the party, but later discovered that the platform had become a vehicle for personal vendetta aimed at undermining the chances of the progressive family in the state,” Ajala said.
He added that the group had resolved to fully support Oyebamiji’s candidacy and work for the APC’s victory in the forthcoming governorship poll and future elections.
Ajala commended Femi Oyetola and his team for facilitating their return, describing the reception as encouraging.
Represented by his campaign Director-General, Kehinde Ayantunji, Femi Oyetola urged the returning members to remain committed to the party’s success, describing the election as a “defining moment” for the APC in Osun State.
He also called on party members, particularly youths, to accommodate the returnees across all levels of the party structure, stressing that they remained critical stakeholders in the state’s development.
Other party leaders present at the reintegration included a former Special Adviser to ex-Governor Oyetola, Rasak Adeosun; a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Bayo Adeleke; and the Osun APC Youth Leader, Goke Akinwomimo, among others.
