The family of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo has announced details of his burial programme, with funeral rites set to conclude on June 18 in his hometown in Abia State.
Ekubo died on May 11 after a battle with kidney cancer, drawing tributes from colleagues, fans and members of Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
In an obituary notice shared on the actor’s Instagram page on Monday, the family appealed for continued prayers and support for his wife and loved ones as they navigate the painful loss.
According to the funeral schedule, a service of songs will hold on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at The Monarch Event Center in Lekki, Lagos, from 4pm to 6pm. Guests attending the event are expected to wear white.
The burial activities will then move to Abia State, where a wake keep has been fixed for Wednesday, June 17, at the Ekubo family residence located at 7 Ekubo-Okwaraeke Avenue, Aziukwukwa, Ujari Village, Arochukwu.
The funeral service and final interment will take place on Thursday, June 18.
Family members disclosed that the service will hold at Mary Slessor School, after which the late actor will be laid to rest at his family home in Arochukwu.
A reception is scheduled to follow immediately after the interment at Mary Slessor School, Amanagwu Village, Arochukwu, with attendees also requested to appear in white attire.
Ekubo, known for his screen presence and roles across several Nollywood productions, built a strong following within Nigeria’s film industry and beyond. His passing marked another moment of grief for the entertainment community, as colleagues and admirers continue to honour his legacy and contributions to Nigerian cinema.
