The Plateau State Government has unveiled plans for the maiden edition of the Plateau State Science, Technology and Innovation Festival scheduled to hold from June 1 to 3, 2026, in Jos.
The festival, tagged PLASSTIFEST, will take place at the Crispan Suites and Event Centre.
Speaking during a press briefing in Jos on Friday, the Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Cletus Shurkuk, said the initiative was aimed at showcasing the state’s innovation potential, connecting innovators with investors and positioning Plateau as a hub for science, technology and innovation.
According to him, the event, themed “Reimagining Plateau: Driving Innovation and Technology for a Smarter and Sustainable Future,” aligns with the vision of Governor Caleb Mutfwang to transform the state through science and technology.
Shurkuk acknowledged challenges facing the state in sectors such as education, agriculture, mining, youth unemployment and infrastructure, but noted that Plateau possessed enormous potential driven by its youthful population and growing innovation ecosystem.
“PLASSTIFEST is not merely an event but a landmark initiative aimed at harnessing our potential, reimagining Plateau through science, technology and innovation, and positioning the state as a hub for sustainable development,” Shurkuk said.
The commissioner said the three-day festival would feature exhibitions by innovators and startups, panel discussions, innovation awards and networking sessions aimed at linking innovators with investors and mentors.
He added that the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr Kingsley Udeh, is expected to deliver the keynote address at the event.
Shurkuk further disclosed that the initiative was designed as a year-round programme that would continue beyond the festival through mentorship and community outreach activities.
He said the participation of the Minister and the Managing Director of the Ministry of Finance Incorporated indicated strong Federal Government support for innovation development in Plateau State.
Describing the initiative as a strategic effort to change the narrative about Plateau, the commissioner said the state was seeking to become a centre for creativity, entrepreneurship and technological advancement.
“It is about creating a new Plateau where innovation drives prosperity, startups thrive, and our youths generate jobs rather than seek them,” he added.
He called on students, entrepreneurs, researchers, investors and small business owners to participate actively in the festival and use the platform to showcase innovative ideas and talents.
