The Senator representing Edo South Senatorial District, Senator Neda Imasuen has appealed to farmers not to sell their farm tools and implements given to them.
He said they should make good use of it to enable them to sustain their families, and the nation at large.
The lawmaker said the initiative was aimed at reducing the price of food in the market by empowering his constituents to be producers of food.
He said: “These items we are giving you, some time I was told that when farm implements are given this way, people go to the market and resell them. I hope that will not be the case here. You are to take the full benefits of what we are providing for you today.
“So, it is my wish and prayers that God that go with you , and help you with wisdom and understanding to do all that you can do to help us build local government, state and the nation as a whole.
“The programme is very important for me because it is a programme we use to empower our farmers to do more in what they do in their farms. So, we don’t want to do it for one day, doing the programme for two days is to make sure the message get down to the farmers
It would also make sure that all that they need to learn about it are given to them. I am satisfied and happy for what I have seen, especially, to the participation of the farmers, and their own way of receiving it.
” Again is my hope that they will utilise the farming implements and insecticides giving to them. So that the farmers can improve and increase their farm yields all for the betterment of their family, community, state and the nation at large,” the lawmaker added.
On her part, agribusiness expert, Iretiolu Odi, told the farmers to see their occupation as a business that they can make more profit from.
She commended Imasuen for empowering his constituents.
