A fatal accident occurred on Sunday in Yakasawa village, Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State, involving a Golf 3 wagon and a Sienna.

The accident, which claimed seven lives and left 14 others injured, occurred in the afternoon as travellers and residents were moving through the area. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with mangled vehicles and scattered bodies.

An eyewitness, Haruna Aliyu, a resident of Yakasawa, told our correspondent the scene was horrific. “Vehicles were mangled, and bodies were scattered. I’ve never seen such a terrible accident in this area before; it’s really sad,” he said.

Another eyewitness, Isya Garba, who helped pull survivors from the wreckage, said, “It was a terrible sight. People were crying and screaming. Please, drivers should be careful, lives are at stake.”

Ibrahim Hamisu, who also witnessed the aftermath, said the vehicles were badly damaged and expressed condolences to the victims’ families. “My heart goes out to the families of the victims, may Allah comfort them,” he said.

Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer of Jigawa State, SP Shi’isu Adam, said the police received a distress call and rushed to the scene.

“We rescued survivors and transported them to the nearest Ringim General Hospital. Our priority is to save lives,” he said.

He further stated that seven lives were lost on the spot, while 14 others were hospitalised, receiving treatment.

“The investigation is ongoing, and we’ll determine the cause of the accident,” Adam added, noting that the police will take necessary actions.

However, SP Adam emphasised the importance of road safety and noted that “Road safety is everyone’s responsibility, let’s work together to prevent such accidents.”

PUNCH Online recalled that on Tuesday, 31 December 2025, 18 people were killed and two others critically injured in a multiple-vehicle accident along the Dutse–Kiyawa Road in Jigawa State.
