500,000 Nigerians Join ADC After INEC Delists Mark, Aregbesola-Led Exco

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has claimed a massive surge in its membership, saying over 500,000 Nigerians joined the party within hours following the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to delist the party’s leadership led by Senator David Mark and former minister, Rauf Aregbesola.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, disclosed this in a series of posts on his X handle, attributing the sudden spike in membership to heightened public interest triggered by the electoral commission’s announcement.

According to Abdullahi, the party recorded over 40,000 new registrations within just 12 hours of INEC’s statement, which was released at about 7:00 pm on April 1.

He added that the figure rose dramatically to over half a million within 22 hours.

“Between 7:00 pm on April 1st, when INEC released its statement, and 5:00 pm today, over half a million (500,000) new Nigerians have joined the ADC,” Abdullahi stated.

The party spokesman suggested that the development reflects growing public support and sympathy for the ADC following the electoral commission’s action, which has continued to generate reactions within political circles.

While INEC has yet to publicly respond to the claim of a membership surge, political observers say the situation may signal a new wave of realignment within the opposition landscape, especially as parties begin to reposition ahead of future elections.

The ADC leadership has, in recent weeks, intensified its public engagements, calling for greater political inclusion and transparency in Nigeria’s democratic process.

The latest claim of an influx of members, however, is yet to be independently verified.
