Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana  Zulum, has relieved two commissioners of their appointments as part of a fresh cabinet shake-up aimed at repositioning governance in the state.

A statement issued on Thursday by the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Dauda Iliya, confirmed the sack of the Commissioner for Environment and the Commissioner for Intergovernmental and Special Duties.

Although no specific reasons were given for their removal, Zulum expressed appreciation for their service and wished them well in future endeavours.

In their place, the governor announced the appointment of Engr. Mohammed Habib and Ibrahim Hala Hassan as replacement commissioners, subject to confirmation by the Borno State House of Assembly.

In a related development, Governor Zulum also approved the appointment of Professor Yusuf Gana Balami as the new Executive Chairman of the Borno State Secondary Education Board.

Balami, a professor of Educational Psychology from Hawul Local Government Area, began his career with the Borno State Ministry of Education in 1984 before joining the University of Maiduguri.

He rose through the academic ranks and was promoted to professor in 2014.

Zulum tasked the new chairman with the responsibility of revitalising secondary education across the state, urging him to deploy his wealth of academic and administrative experience to raise standards.

“I urge Professor Balami to apply his wealth of experience in education, both as an administrator and academic, to improve the quality of secondary education in the state,” Zulum said.

All new appointees have been forwarded to the State Assembly for screening and confirmation.
