From Sola Ojo, Abuja

Unions in Nigeria’s aviation sector have issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, over the prolonged delay in implementing a revised salary structure for staff of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).

In a joint letter dated, July 31, the unions expressed deep frustration that, despite concluding negotiations with NAMA management more than eight months ago, the agreed salary adjustments have yet to be implemented. The letter was jointly signed by the general secretaries of the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), and the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service, Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE). According to the unions, repeated appeals and official communications from their rank-and-file members had gone unheeded, forcing the leadership to issue a formal ultimatum.

“A seven-day notice of withdrawal of services from today, Thursday, the 31st day of July, 2025, is hereby issued”, the letter reads in part.

“The ultimatum expires on August 7, after which the unions have threatened to commence a total withdrawal of services across all NAMA operations nationwide. The unions also advised all clients and stakeholders of NAMA to take note of the notice, warning that flight operations could be severely impacted if the issue remains unresolved.”
