Leaders of opposition parties in Ogun State, under the umbrella of the Coalition for United Political Parties (CUPP) and the African Democratic Party (ADP), have threatened to take legal action against the state government over alleged lack of transparency in the reconstruction of legislative and commissioners’ quarters, as well as the relocation of residents from the NATA (Mechanic) Village, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

In a letter dated November 18, 2025, signed by Prof. Yemi Oke, SAN, PhD, FCTI, FCArb, along with legal associates Sandra Idedia and Oluwatobi Adeniregun of MJS Partners, counsel to the opposition groups demanded that the Governor of Ogun State, the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, and the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) release relevant documents within seven days.

The documents requested include certified copies of the state budget approvals or supplementary budgets, Executive Council approvals for demolition and reconstruction of the quarters, and memos from the Ministry of Housing related to the projects.

The lawyers also sought details of compensation and relocation plans for the NATA Village residents and the intended public-purpose usage plan for the area.

The letter emphasized that failure to comply within the stipulated time would compel the opposition parties to commence legal proceedings to secure restraining orders against the projects.

“Our clients are concerned about public transparency and the legality of actions taken with respect to the NATA Village and the state’s legislative and commissioners’ quarters.

“We hereby demand that all relevant documents be made available within seven days, failing which legal action will be initiated,” the letter stated.

Copies of the correspondence were also sent to the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, the Commissioner for Housing, and the Commissioner for Finance, signaling that the matter could escalate into a full-blown legal confrontation with the state government.

The NATA Village, originally acquired from residents for what the government described as “overriding public purpose,” has been at the centre of mounting controversy, with opposition parties insisting on clarity over compensation and redevelopment plans.

Efforts to obtain comment from the Governor’s Office, the House of Assembly, and the Ministry of Housing were unsuccessful as at press time.
