‘Submitting Nominees To Tinubu Is Anti-Party’ — Showunmi Warns PDP Govs

Political strategist and member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Showunmi, has accused PDP governors of engaging in actions he describes as “clearly anti-party,” following reports that they submitted lists of nominees to President Bola Tinubu for federal appointments.

Showunmi, who spoke during an interview on TVC, said the development not only undermines the party’s internal structures but also raises serious questions about loyalty and collective discipline within the opposition party.

According to him, “All the PDP governors submitted names of 10 people to the president to help them appoint. Is that not anti-party?”

He argued that such conduct contradicts the spirit of opposition politics and weakens the PDP’s bargaining power as a collective institution.

He warned that bypassing established party organs erodes the party’s cohesion at a time it is struggling to regain stability and public trust.

“When governors bypass the party mechanism, they shift influence away from the organs that should give direction. It weakens our internal authority and confuses members,” he said.

Showunmi noted that the alleged collaboration between PDP governors and the ruling All Progressives Congress government could send mixed signals to party supporters, especially as preparations begin for future elections.

He added that the practice, if unchecked, could derail ongoing efforts to rebuild confidence and unity within the PDP.

“Those holding top offices must demonstrate loyalty to party principles. Actions perceived as anti-party only complicate long-term planning and damage our credibility,” he said.

Showunmi urged stakeholders to recommit to internal party processes, warning that the PDP risks deeper fragmentation if its leaders continue to act unilaterally.
