The Ogun State chapter of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has accused the state government of engaging in political persecution following the reported move to demolish properties belonging to former governor and serving senator, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.

CUPP, states this at a press conference held in Abeokuta on  Sunday  addressed by its State Chairman, Otunba Femi Soluade.

He described the alleged demolition threat as “a shameful abuse of power” targeted at humiliating the two-term former governor.

According to the opposition coalition, the reported decision of the state government to mark Daniel’s private residence and hotel for demolition amounted to “vindictiveness, political intimidation and a brazen attempt to erase the legacy of one of Ogun’s finest leaders.”

The statement read partly: “we have observed with shock the deliberate victimisation of His Excellency, Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD), a two-term governor of this state, a performing senator of the Federal Republic, and a statesman of unmatched service to Ogun people.

The recent action by the Ogun State Government is nothing short of political persecution. Ogun politics must not be reduced to bitterness, blackmail and intimidation simply because of political differences.”

CUPP further warned that if Governor Dapo Abiodun failed to rescind the alleged action, the coalition would not hesitate to join the former governor in legal action against the state government.

It added that the alleged victimisation was not only an insult to Daniel but also to the collective dignity of Ogun people.

The coalition declared: “Otunba Gbenga Daniel is not just a politician; he is a builder, a mentor and a leader whose contributions to Ogun State will stand the test of time.

He deserves respect, not humiliation. Power is transient, but history is permanent.”

CUPP also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State of “weaponising state power against perceived internal and external opponents,” insisting that such repressive tendencies would only deepen public resentment against the ruling party.

The opposition group urged residents of the state to reject “politics of vendetta” and rally in defence of democratic values.

As of press time, the Ogun State Government had yet to issue an official response to CUPP’s allegations.
