Nigerian comedian and former Big Brother Naija housemate, DeeOne, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration may not be easy for Nigerians, but described it as the right path for the country.
DeeOne made the assertion during an appearance on Vanguard’s podcast, The Nigerian Meter, where he argued that any opposition seeking to take over power in 2027 must clearly state its plans for Nigerians.
He said, “Tinubu’s regime won’t be easy for anybody, but it is the way forward and it is the truth.
“For me, this government is doing well, and if any other government wants to take over, let them tell us what they want to do.”
Referencing comments by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who had criticised the current administration, DeeOne questioned what practical alternatives opposition figures were offering.
Atiku, in an earlier interview, said he felt “terribly disappointed” in Tinubu’s government, describing it as the worst administration he had seen.
Reacting, DeeOne said, “Do you want to bring back subsidy? This is not about me, but about our children. Do you know that the monthly allocation the government receives has increased tremendously?
“There are many things we blame the president for that governors and local government chairmen are supposed to handle.
“For me, if nobody can give us a tangible way forward, then this government should continue.”
Speaking on the president’s visit to the United Kingdom, DeeOne said he felt proud of the reception accorded to Tinubu.
His words, “I’m only saying I want the road to be completed, student loans to continue, and state police to happen.
“Look at the way the president was received in the UK; I was proud to be a Nigerian because I’ve never experienced that physically. I saw the way Nigeria was celebrated. It was not about the president alone; it was about honouring us as Nigerians, and it can only get better.”
On activism and opposition politics ahead of next year’s election, DeeOne urged public figures to be transparent about political sponsorship.
“I want them to be honest. If they are paid, let Nigerians know they are paid. If anybody pays me today, I will tell everybody.
“When you are not honest, people like us will see through you. Abroad, celebrities openly receive money from politicians to campaign for them, and everybody knows. Why do Nigerians hide it?
“You go out there to shout, ‘We’re hungry,’ yet you are wearing perfume worth almost one million naira.”
