Chairman of the Congress Committee to Edo State, Kabir Ajanah, has urged other states to emulate what he described as the hitch-free conduct of the local government and ward congresses which ended nationwide on Saturday.

Speaking at a press conference at the APC secretariat in Benin, Ajanah said the smooth exercise showed that the state executive committee carried members along, resulting in the peaceful conduct of the congresses.

He also commended Governor Monday Okpebholo, saying his exemplary leadership reflected in the way party members aligned with the governor’s template.

He said, “The congress has become a model for many other states to follow and I commend the state chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, for providing the logistics that aided our job.

“The governor has also shown exemplary leadership to bring all the members of the party in the state on board.”

The Edo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Jarrett Tenebe, said the state remained the cynosure of all eyes due to the rancour-free model demonstrated across the 18 local government areas and 192 wards.

He said the development was being championed by Okpebholo, who had positioned the state as a model for others to emulate.

Tenebe added, “With our amiable governor being the captain of our ship and the field commander of our battalion, we the foot soldiers, starting from the state, local government and ward executives, must work tirelessly to ensure that the Renewed Hope agenda of Mr President is reinvigorated and calibrated in all the nooks and crannies of Edo State.

“As we bask in the euphoria of this success, which has helped to reshape and deepen the internal democratic culture, we must remind ourselves that the joy of this can be short-lived if it does not resonate in the electoral outcomes of the forthcoming general elections.

“I sincerely thank our members across the state for the high level of discipline, maturity, unity, conviviality and, above all, the show of unflinching support for our leadership, which helped to consolidate and strengthen our common resolve for a well-articulated internal structure — an antidote to progressive political development modelled to help reshape our political destiny.

“While the opposition parties are swimming in an ocean of self-destruction, we must not take that prime delusion for granted. Our success must be built on collective mobilisation, party cohesion and uncommon unity.”

He also thanked members of the congress committees for exhibiting dexterity, determination and cooperation throughout the exercise.
