You Didn’t Tell Nigerians You Collected ₦50bn From Tinubu, Fayose Accuses Makinde

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has accused Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, of allegedly receiving ₦50 billion from President Bola Tinubu without paying the funds into the state’s treasury, saying the governor failed to disclose the transaction to Nigerians.

Fayose made the allegation on Friday during an interview on Television Continental (TVC), where he claimed that the money was given to Makinde as federal support following the deadly explosion that rocked Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, in 2024.

According to Fayose, Makinde deliberately omitted the alleged ₦50bn support when he recently briefed journalists on his meeting with President Tinubu, choosing instead to focus on political issues discussed during the visit.

“The president of Nigeria, yes, he wanted the sitting; he wanted the minister to be appointed. Circumstances did not allow him to get that slot,” Fayose said during the interview.

“But you did not tell Nigerians you got, at the prerogative, at the mercy of Mr President, ₦50 billion in support of the explosion in Ibadan. He never said that to Nigerians. So, the president can say the explosion is not worth more than ₦10 billion,” he added.

The former governor further alleged that the funds did not pass through the official coffers of the Oyo State Government but were handed directly to Makinde during his interface with President Tinubu.

“The ₦50 billion did not come into the coffers of Oyo State. It came with you coming to interface with the president because you came and said you met with the president,” Fayose claimed.

He accused Makinde of selectively disclosing details of the meeting, particularly his refusal to accede to an alleged request by Tinubu to help organise the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State.

“You only said the part where you said the president told you to ‘go and organise APC for me,’ and you said, ‘I cannot organise,’” Fayose stated. “But you did not tell Nigerians what the president did for you and did for the good people of your state.”

The allegations come amid heightened political tension following Makinde’s recent declaration that he would not support President Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 general election.
