Borno Assistant Police Commissioner Dies in Fatal Crash

The Assistant Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department of the Borno State Command, ACP Abubakar Balteh, is dead.

In a brief statement on Saturday, the Public Relations Officer of the command, ASP Nahum Daso, said he died on 21st February, 2026, in a fatal vehicle accident.

The statement reads “the Borno State Police Command regrets the passing of ACP Abubakar A. Balteh, who passed away today, 21st February, 2026, in a fatal vehicle accident.

“Until his demise, he served diligently as the Assistant Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Borno State Command”.

Daso noted that details regarding the burial arrangements and other related information will be communicated in due course.

“May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest,” he said.

It could be recalled that in November 2025, Daso also announced the passing of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Crïminal Investigation Department of the Command DCP Ahmed Ibn Umar, who died after a prolonged illness.

The PPRO in a statement at the time said “the Borno State Police Command regrets the passing of DCP Ahmed Ibn Umar, who dïed at University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) after a protracted illness.

“He served diligently as the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Crïminal Investigation Department (SCID), Borno State Command. May his soul rest in peace,” he stated.
