A former Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Nkem Okeke, has commended the state governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for his aggressive drive in transforming the state’s rural and urban infrastructural landscape, describing the effort as a step towards making Anambra a “prosperous homeland” for its people.

Okeke, who served as deputy governor between 2014 and 2021 under former Governor Willie Obiano, said the current level of infrastructural development in the state is a testament to strategic governance and people-oriented policies.

He spoke on Sunday during a tour of some high-impact projects executed by the state government, noting that the projects represent a significant boost to the current administration’s urban renewal drive and efforts to position Anambra as a destination for major investments.

He said, “The infrastructural revolution and urban renewal reflect a shift towards world-class social investment. It is a seamless integration of infrastructure across both urban and rural corridors.

“The emerging facilities at the Solution Fun City and the Country Club, among others, are more than just leisure spots; they are testimonies to strategic governance.

“They are critical drivers of social cohesion, economic growth, and youth engagement, providing constructive outlets and modern amenities for the younger generation.

“This is a strong indication of the governor’s urban renewal efforts and his aggressive drive to transform the state’s infrastructural landscape, positioning Anambra as a destination hub.”

The tour of the high-impact projects was led by Chinedu Nwoye, the Chief Protocol and Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor.

The visit ended at the Light House, Awka, where the former deputy governor observed what he described as the seamless integration of infrastructure across both urban and rural corridors.

Okeke gave the Soludo administration high marks for its commitment to the “prosperous homeland” vision, citing massive investments in road networks, public utilities, and recreational hubs as the foundation for a modern Anambra.

PUNCH Online reports that in August 2025, Soludo reiterated his commitment to actualising his vision of making Anambra a destination and investment hub in Nigeria and beyond.

The governor made the remark during a meeting with journalists at the Government Lodge in Awka.

Soludo said everyone living in Anambra, irrespective of socio-economic status, must join hands in developing the state and positioning it as a destination for significant investments in critical sectors.

He added that his administration is fully prepared to ensure that Anambra remains the safest state in Nigeria.

The governor further stated that the two newly established state security outfits—Agụnechemba and Udo Ga Achi—are performing effectively in the ongoing fight against crime in the state.
