The First Lady of Anambra State, Nonye Soludo, has celebrated mothers across the country, describing motherhood as a “divine responsibility” that should be honoured at all times, noting that its value cannot be measured in material terms.

In a statement released on Sunday to commemorate World Mothering Sunday, which falls globally on March 15, the First Lady said no gift, treasure, or expression of love could ever equate to the price of motherhood.

She described it as a rare privilege that should never be taken for granted.

“Motherhood is one divine responsibility that has no material quantification. Being a mother is a rare blessing; a gift that should never ever be taken for granted,” Soludo said.

The Anambra First Lady, who is also the founder of the ‘Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo’ initiative, further explained that motherhood is God’s call to serve a sacred purpose, extending beyond the home, and that it is a duty guided by passion and grace.

She urged everyone to celebrate their mothers today and every other day, noting that the best gift to give a mother is love, presence, and prayers.

“For your sacrifices, extraordinary courage, resilience, and eternal closure, the world celebrates you today and beyond. Remember that the best gift you can give to her is love, presence, and prayers.

“Happy Mothering Sunday to every hard-working and compassionate mother in Anambra State and elsewhere. Take your flowers. You are the saints we see,” Soludo added.

PUNCH Online reports that Mothering Sunday, celebrated annually on the fourth Sunday in Lent, is primarily observed in the United Kingdom and Ireland as a day to honour mothers and mother churches, often combining religious services with family celebrations.

Traditionally, Christians would visit the church where they were baptised, becoming “children of the church.”
