As political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, a new public opinion poll has positioned Engineer Michael Abayomi Adeyanju (popularly known as Imole) as the overwhelming favourite for the Ondo North Senatorial seat, with 90 percent of respondents expressing preference for his candidacy.

The poll, conducted by the PenPlus Stat Index (Research and Public Opinion Unit of PenPlus Online Media Publishers), also revealed deep dissatisfaction with the current senator representing the district, with 85 percent of respondents rating his performance as “very poor.”

According to the report dated February 19, 2026, the survey covered all six local government areas in Ondo North—Akoko North-East, Akoko North-West, Akoko South-East, Akoko South-West, Ose, and Owo—as well as 72 political wards across the district.

A total of 12,024 respondents participated, drawn from farmers, traders, civil servants, artisans, youths, and community stakeholders.

The findings indicate that while political awareness remains high— with all respondents confirming awareness of their elected federal lawmakers, public perception of performance varies sharply.

In contrast to the senator’s rating, 45 percent of respondents described the performance of House of Representatives members as “average,” with many attributing their assessment to constituency projects, accessibility, and grassroots engagement.

However, the report noted that dissatisfaction with senatorial representation cuts across the district, with 85 percent of respondents expressing the need for a change in leadership at the Senate in 2027.

“Limited visibility and insufficient constituency-level interventions” were repeatedly cited as key reasons behind the negative perception of the incumbent senator.

The survey further underscored that voters in Ondo North place strong emphasis on tangible development, accessibility of elected officials, and sustained grassroots engagement as key determinants of electoral support.

In the emerging political outlook, Adeyanju appears to have gained significant early momentum, with 90 percent of respondents identifying him as their preferred candidate among potential aspirants for the senatorial race.

The report, however, cautioned that the findings reflect public sentiment at the time of the survey and should not be interpreted as a prediction of the 2027 election outcome, noting that political dynamics may still evolve significantly before the polls.

It added that the survey offers insight into voter expectations in the district, stressing that candidates who demonstrate strong grassroots presence and deliver visible constituency projects are more likely to gain voter confidence.
