The Lagos Waste Management Authority has intensified enforcement operations across key locations in the state to curb illegal waste collection and dumping activities.
The post was shared by the Lagos State Government on its X (formerly Twitter) page on Monday.
In a statement, the agency said the move aligns with its zero-tolerance stance.
“LAWMA Waste Surveillance, Investigation and Enforcement operatives have intensified monitoring and enforcement operations across key locations in Lagos as part of the Authority’s zero-tolerance stance on illegal waste activities,” the post read.
The agency disclosed targeted actions against illegal operators, saying, “On March 19, 2026, operatives carried out targeted enforcement against illegal cart pushers in Gbagada, Bariga, and Iwaya, known for indiscriminate waste collection and dumping at unauthorised locations, undermining efforts to maintain a cleaner city.”
It added that a suspect was apprehended during a follow-up operation.
“In a related development, on March 21, 2026, the team apprehended an illegal wheelbarrow pusher during a waste source investigation exercise at a previously eradicated black spot under the Mile 12 flyover bridge, opposite the BRT terminal,” it added.
According to LAWMA, the operations are part of ongoing efforts to maintain sanitation.
“These ongoing operations reinforce LAWMA’s commitment to sustaining a cleaner, healthier Lagos. Residents are urged to patronize only assigned PSP operators and shun illegal waste handlers,” it added.
PUNCH Online reports that LAWMA recorded 1,023 cases of illegal waste dumping and other waste-management violations across Lagos State in 2025, with 447 cases referred for prosecution.
