The highly anticipated nominees for the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) will be announced today, Sunday, March 29, 2026.

The announcement will be made during a special broadcast airing at 7 p.m. across Africa Magic channels on DStv and GOtv.

A total of 32 award categories will be unveiled, including two newly introduced categories: Best Indigenous Language (Central Africa) and Best Indigenous Language (North Africa). The awards comprise 18 jury-decided categories, 11 public voting categories, and three special recognition honours, including Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer.

The addition of the two categories according to Executive Head of Content and Channels, MultiChoice West Africa, Atinuke Babatunde, reflects a more inclusive approach to celebrating Africa’s diverse languages, regions, and creative voices.

“We are celebrating culture in all its richness, and authenticity.”

Veteran actress and one of Nollywood’s most enduring figures, Joke Silva, serves as Head Judge for this year’s edition, bringing decades of experience both in front of and behind the camera. She emphasised that the jury’s responsibility is not “simply to reward visibility or popularity, but to honour the depth of craft and the mastery of storytelling that continue to elevate African cinema on the global stage.”

For the first time, Guinness, a long-time partner of the AMVCA, will feature its full portfolio at the event.

“From the bold character of our spirits to the refreshment of our beers and the accessibility of our ready-to-drink offerings, we are bringing a complete celebration to the AMVCA because we understand that celebrations are not one size fits all. They are dynamic, inclusive and deeply personal,” said Head of Marketing, Africa Partner Markets at Diageo, Segun Ogunleye.

He added that the milestone reflects “not only the strength and diversity of our brands but also our commitment to showing up for consumers in moments of celebration, recognition, and shared cultural pride.”

The 12th edition of the AMVCA is scheduled for May 9, 2026.
