Grammy award-winning Nigerian singer Tems has shared her thoughts on marriage, stating that she feels it should be founded on a desire for growth rather than mere feelings.

In a recent interview with media personality Angie Martinez, Tems said that she feels marriage can be difficult at times and that individuals should approach it with the understanding that it would not always be rosy.

Tems noted that while marriage is uncertain, she prefers a God-fearing partner because she believes such a person will be accountable.

“My partner has to be a God-fearing man. Because why would you truly love me if you don’t have anyone that you answer to?

“If you’re not accountable to anyone, how could you choose to love and keep loving me for the rest of our lives?

“If you’re the god of your life, why would you love me forever? You could just discard me anytime you want. But marriage is something that makes you better as a human being. It should.

“It shouldn’t be about only love; it’s about compatibility. It’s about whether a relationship makes you a better person, like it evolves you. Because marriage is a whole other level, it’s supposed to bring out the hard times,” she stated.
