Nigerian artist Zlatan Ibile has opened up about the challenges he encountered with his parents during his rise to prominence in the music industry.

In a recent episode of the YACN podcast, the ‘Zanku’ crooner revealed that after rising to fame in 2019, he purchased a property for his parents in Lagos’ affluent Lekki area, but they declined the gift since they were unsure of the source of his fortune, which was unexpected to them.

According to the musician, his parents were sceptical that he could have purchased the luxury property only from musical earnings.

“When I blew up in 2019, I bought my first house in Lekki and decided to gift it to my parents. I called them on the phone and asked them to come, and they were like, ‘A house? That’s not possible.

“Are you doing something else apart from music? How did you buy a house worth millions in the space of one year?” he recalled.

Zlatan said his parents’ suspicion made him feel bad because he was prioritising them, and they were doubting him.

He stated that his parents had sought time to pray for seven days before deciding whether or not to come.

The rapper stated that before his parents accepted the house, he had to print his statement of account and provide proof of his music revenue.

He advised parents to investigate the source of their children’s income before accepting extravagant presents from them.
