The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye, on Monday charged Nigerians, particularly political office holders, to embrace accountability, warning that everyone would ultimately give an account of their lives before God.
Adeboye gave the admonition during the 70th birthday thanksgiving service of a former Governor of Ogun State and Senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel, held at Abraham’s Tabernacle, Sagamu.
The cleric stressed the inevitability of accountability, describing life as a “journey of no return,” where individuals would be judged based on their deeds.
He said, “From the day you are born, you begin a journey back to your exit on earth. Every journey has an end and at the end, you will give an account. We are all on a compulsory journey of accountability.”
Adeboye urged Nigerians to cultivate a genuine relationship with God, noting that the fear of God remains the foundation of wisdom.
“Anyone who does not fear God is a fool. To begin to be wise, you must fear God. Wisdom is the correct application of knowledge,” he added.
The cleric, who has lived in Ogun State since 1983, also described Daniel as an exceptional leader, commending his performance while in office.
“I have passed through many governors, but Daniel has been exceptional. Every promise he made, he fulfilled. If you are looking for a true Omoluabi, you will find one in him,” Adeboye said.
In his remarks, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, represented by his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, described Daniel as a leader whose life reflects service, excellence, and commitment to national development.
He said attaining the age of 70 was a significant milestone deserving of reflection on a life of impactful service.
“Otunba Daniel’s contributions to Ogun State and Nigeria remain invaluable. His tenure brought energy, vision, and purpose to governance,” the governor stated.
Responding, Daniel expressed appreciation to clerics and supporters for their prayers and encouragement over the years, which he said sustained him through public service.
The senator pledged to continue serving the people, urging Nigerians to remain hopeful and support the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
“We have a good president. He is intelligent and has a plan. What we are experiencing now is like carrying a cross, but it will eventually turn into a crown,” he said.
