The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ogun State Council, has honoured the Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Arc. Dr. ‘Koye Jolaoso, with the Distinguished Labour Solidarity Award in recognition of his contributions to staff welfare, institutional development, and harmonious labour relations within the institution.
The award was presented on behalf of the state labour movement by the Ogun NLC Executive Council, led by its Chairman, Comrade Hameed Benco Ademola, during a ceremony held in Abeokuta.
According to the labour body, the recognition followed what it described as “significant improvements” recorded at MAPOLY under the leadership of Jolaoso, particularly in the areas of improved working conditions, enhanced staff welfare packages, and a more enabling academic environment.
Ademola, while presenting the award, said the Rector had distinguished himself through leadership anchored on integrity, inclusiveness, and consistent engagement with the workforce.
“Your contributions to institutional growth and your demonstrated commitment to the welfare of workers stand you out as a leader worthy of emulation. You have consistently shown solidarity with the labour movement and humanity at large,” he said.
The NLC chairman added that the honour was not only a recognition of personal achievement but also an encouragement for continued collaboration between management and labour in the education sector.
In his response, Arc. Dr. ‘Koye Jolaoso expressed appreciation to the labour body for the recognition, describing it as a motivation to do more in advancing the fortunes of the institution.
He noted that his position as the first alumnus to serve as Rector of MAPOLY comes with a strong sense of responsibility to all stakeholders, adding that leadership must be driven by service, accountability, and collective progress.
Jolaoso further dedicated the award to the management, staff, and students of the institution, stressing that the progress recorded so far was the result of teamwork and shared commitment.
“No meaningful achievement can be attained in isolation. This honour belongs to the entire MAPOLY community whose dedication and support continue to drive our reforms,” he said.
Dignitaries at the event included the Deputy Rector, Dr. (Mrs.) Yetunde Lanre-Iyanda; the Registrar, Mrs. Olubunmi Elewodalu; and the Bursar, Mrs. Folasade Madariola, FCA, among other members of the institution’s management team.
