All Progressives Congress Stakeholders have praised Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu for his role in advancing the political interests of the South-East region, highlighting his leadership as a key factor in strengthening the zone’s voice and influence in national politics.
The APC Stakeholders, under the banner of the Integrity Group, in a statement issued on Saturday by its National Coordinator, Ardo Zubariu, and National Secretary, Chinsom Nwakanma, praised South-East residents in the Federal Capital Territory for their strong backing of the ruling party’s candidates in the recently concluded FCT Area Councils elections.
Since its formation, the APC has struggled to make significant inroads in the South-East. However, with growing support from residents of the zone and the active involvement of the Deputy Speaker, the party has recently gained popularity in the region.
The APC leaders noted that during the campaign, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, who also served as Secretary of the APC Campaign Council for the elections, appealed to South-East residents in the FCT to support the party by voting for its candidates.
The group said the response was overwhelmingly positive and played a major role in securing victories for the APC in five of the six area councils.
“We sincerely appreciate the South-East residents in the FCT for standing with the Deputy Speaker and supporting APC candidates during the election. Their solidarity and participation played a vital role in the successes recorded by the party,” the statement said.
APC stakeholders also took the opportunity to emphasise Kalu’s leadership record and accomplishments, describing him as one of the most prominent voices representing the South-East in national politics.
The statement read in part, “Hon. Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency of Abia State in the House of Representatives, is currently serving as the Deputy Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives. A lawyer, policy advocate and experienced legislator, he has distinguished himself through effective parliamentary leadership and commitment to national unity and inclusive governance.
“Since assuming office as Deputy Speaker, Kalu has played a key role in promoting legislative reforms, strengthening democratic institutions and supporting policies aimed at economic growth and national development. He has also been actively involved in initiatives aimed at promoting peace, reconciliation and greater national integration.
“The APC Integrity Group noted that Kalu’s growing national stature and strategic position in government have provided increased political visibility and representation for the South-East region.
“Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu has demonstrated capacity, competence and commitment to national service. His leadership continues to open new opportunities for the South-East within the national political space.”
They called on South-East residents in the FCT and nationwide to keep supporting the Deputy Speaker, emphasising that continued support for reputable leaders from the region will enhance the South-East’s influence in national matters.
It stated, “We believe that unity and strategic engagement with leaders such as Hon. Benjamin Kalu will further enhance the political relevance of the South-East and attract greater developmental opportunities for the region.”
