A pro-Goodluck Jonathan group, the Goodluck Jonathan Legacy Project, has faulted former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over his recent claim that the ex-president’s administration was “inexperienced,” describing the comment as inaccurate and politically motivated.
The group, through its National Coordinator, Juan Amechee Governor, said in a statement on Thursday that Atiku lacked the moral standing to assess Jonathan’s leadership record, insisting that the former president’s political trajectory reflected substantial experience before assuming office.
The group said, “To describe Dr. Jonathan as ‘inexperienced’ is a flight from reality. Before becoming president, he served as deputy governor, governor, vice president and acting president. If such a résumé is termed inexperience, then the benchmark for leadership must be questionable.”
The statement also took a swipe at Atiku’s long-standing presidential ambitions, arguing that repeated bids for the nation’s top office did not equate to leadership competence.
“It is unfortunate that this statement is coming from a career presidential candidate who lacks the moral authority to speak about experience.
“If ‘experience’ is defined by serial presidential contests, Nigerians must ask why such experience has not translated into national leadership,” the group added.
The GJLP further accused Atiku of being a divisive political figure, alleging that his career across multiple political platforms had been marked by instability rather than cohesion.
Defending Jonathan’s record in office, the group highlighted what it described as key achievements of his administration, including economic expansion, agricultural reforms and increased foreign investment inflows.
It also cited Nigeria’s rebasing of its Gross Domestic Product during Jonathan’s tenure, which briefly positioned the country as Africa’s largest economy, as well as what it called improvements in investor confidence.
