Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, has inducted 86 new Medical Laboratory Scientists into the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), with a strong call for innovation, ethical practice, and technological advancement in the nation’s healthcare system.
The 13th induction ceremony, held at the university’s 600-seater Medical School Auditorium, brought together top academics and medical professionals who challenged the graduating class to uphold the highest standards of professional integrity and contribute meaningfully to national health development.
Delivering the keynote address, Professor Augustine Onyeaghala, a Professor of Chemical Pathology and Toxicology at Chrisland University, emphasised the importance of innovation, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance in modern medical laboratory practice.
“The future of medical laboratory science hinges on our ability to innovate responsibly, create sustainable technologies, and remain ethically grounded,” he said.
“Your relevance will be measured not only by your technical skill, but by your commitment to accuracy, timeliness, and service to humanity.”
President/Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Ademola Tayo, described the ceremony as more than a routine academic milestone, stressing that the inductees have a critical role to play in addressing growing complexities in healthcare.
“As medical laboratory scientists, you are vital to the survival of healthcare delivery in an age where systems are strained and resources are stretched,” Tayo said.
“This induction marks the beginning of your service to humanity.”
The Head of Department, Prof. Esther Adejumo, reinforced the need for ethical integrity in professional conduct, noting that behind every test result lies a human life.
“Let your science be guided by ethics. Build the future of health with precision and compassion,” she said.
Also speaking, the Acting Registrar/CEO of the MLSCN, Dr. Donald Ofili, urged the new inductees to be lifelong learners and uphold confidentiality in patient care.
“The healthcare sector depends on your expertise,” he said. “Remain diligent and be ambassadors of quality and professionalism.”
The event also celebrated academic excellence, with 11 students graduating with First Class honours.
Elizabeth Kehinde Olukoya emerged as the overall best graduating student, setting a new record in the department’s history.
“I am honoured to be part of this journey,” Olukoya said.
“This achievement comes with the responsibility to uphold the values of our profession and contribute to national development.”
The induction ceremony marks another milestone in Babcock’s commitment to producing competent, ethical, and innovative professionals in the medical field.
