Candidates from the Fusengbuwa Ruling House seeking the revered stool of the Awujale of Ijebu Land have called for strict adherence to due process in the ongoing selection process, while also urging greater federal presence and accelerated development across Ijebu Land.
The call was made at a forum of blood descendants of Jadiara, convened in Ijebu Ode by a contender for the throne, Barrister Prince Adebowale Olufeko, who said the meeting was not designed to undermine any authority but to give collective voice to legitimate stakeholders in the succession process.
Speaking on behalf of the candidates, Olufeko, a lawyer, arbitrator and mediator, said those aspiring to the stool remained committed to tradition, law and constituted authority, stressing that their demand was simply for transparency, fairness and respect for established customs.
“This gathering recognises that we are critical stakeholders in the process. Our objective is to examine the process, share ideas and articulate our collective position with decorum, wisdom and unity,” he said.
The candidates expressed appreciation to the Olori Ebis of all ruling houses, particularly the Head of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, Alhaji Fatai Owoyemi, as well as the kingmakers, urging them to ensure that Ijebu Ode and Ijebu Land are presented with a worthy “Omo Oye” through due process.
They also commended Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for steps taken to ensure the Fusengbuwa Ruling House produces the next Awujale and for ongoing infrastructural projects, including the recent commissioning of the Abeokuta Road/New Road.
While acknowledging the transfer of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) to a federal university, the candidates appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to deepen federal institutional presence in Ijebu Land, noting that the area remains underserved despite its historical and economic significance.
“This is not a political campaign. We are family. At the end of the day, only one person will emerge as Awujale, but we are bound by a higher obligation to the peace, unity and development of Ijebu Land,” Olufeko said.
He disclosed that a communiqué reflecting the collective position of the candidates would be forwarded to the Ogun State Government and the Presidency.
The forum, tagged Candidates’ Voices, reinforced the commitment of all contenders to peace, unity and orderly succession in line with tradition and law.
